Have you heard of the new term "the stay-vay"? A stay-vay is a vacation where you simply stay close to home. Choosing to go within a few miles or an hours drive, or just lounging at home and relaxing, are all stay-vays! I have had a few stay-vays in my life and I wasn't even aware I was becoming a trend. Wooo-hoo for me!
With the rising prices of transportation and lodging, stay-vays seem like a nice idea for the summer ahead. Tossing this idea between friends and we came up with a few grand options if you are having a stay at home vacation this year.
Rent a car! Okay, this may seem like a stupid, money wasting scheme at first glance, but we have two reasons to bring this option to your attention. If you drive a car that gets terrible mileage, consider renting a smaller, trendier drive for a day or two and hit the road. With the saved funds from gas you may have enough for a nice hotel stay close to home.
Another option that renting a car brings? The chance to hit the road to local museums or tourist sites or even the beach in a car that you would love to have for a day or two. I adore a convertible, I would never own one, but I love to rent one when given the option. Maybe you would like to drive up the coast or to the shore in a little rag top too!
Book a room! Okay, we are not be mad with your money, we are simply offering up the notion of booking a room at that great little bed and breakfast you have heard such raves about. When you have an entire week off, you may be able to book a mid-week room at a discount price. Book a night with your DH or BF or just a quite booking for you ...Enjoy the peace and quite and ability to nap! Now, that is a vacation!
Have a party! Parties can be a bit pricey, but what a better way to see friends and fans? We all love to entertain, but often we fill so overbooked that it becomes a chore, rather than fun. Choose a date where you have time to enjoy the planning, cooking and even the party. Enjoy yourself, this is for you!
Plan simple outings! The local zoo, the children's museum, the new mall across the county. Choose a destination that you have really wanted to visit and go! Invite a friend, grab the kids...Whatever makes you happy and go! The day is yours!
Relax. Often we return from an amazing vacation stressed. The trip was great but the bills have piled up and the house needs airing ...You know! After a week of traveling I often feel as though I need a few days to regroup.
Indulge yourself by doing whatever makes you happy. A home spa day? Yes! A clean the closets day? If that works, do it! The key here is to take a day or two and do something that you will find rewarding when you return to work. I love returning to my routine with a clean house and uncluttered drawing table.
